We are parents who grew tired of grocery shopping only to find the shelves packed with foods laden with preservatives and additives. In 2015, we were introduced to a nutrition bar made in Ecuador, the Wipala Andean Bar. Immediately, we realized this wasn't just any nutrition bar - it was packed with "SUPERFOODS" such as Quinoa and Andean Lupin...and not 1 preservative! We had stumbled upon a "SUPERFOOD" rich bar that actually tasted good.
When our 8 year old daughter and 6 year old son enjoyed the bars, we realized an alternative existed to the common preservative ridden snacks frequently found on grocery store shelves.
At Bonus Salus, our mission is to bring healthy foods, truly healthy foods from around the world, to the consumer here in the USA. These are foods NATURALLY rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber. And, we're very proud to say that it all started with Wipala.
A few common questions & answers:
When and why did health and REAL ingredients become something that you are so passionate about?
According to my mother I have always been into health and nutrition. It's quite embarrassing to admit now, but I used to think that I was being healthy by going to Subway and ordering a tuna sub. When I was younger I just wasn't aware or educated on how to be truly healthy! Being truly healthy is about avoiding unnecessary preservatives, GMO, and limiting sugar and fat intake.
In 2016, at 38 years old, I know better! After giving up dairy (primarily cheese, milk, yogurt), losing 20 lbs in the process, and losing all joint pain the results speak for themselves!
How did we find Wipala?
A colleague of from another business venture decided to make Ecuador his retirement home. When he returns to the US he always returns with goodies from Ecuador. One such product was Wipala. Spanish packaging and all, but not only did we like the Wipala bars, our traditionally junk food loving young kids LOVED them. That's when it became clear that Wipala was special.
Are you and your family travelers?
We travel a fair amount. Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Belgium, Amsterdam, and (of course) Ecuador over the last 2 years. The world is an amazing place and getting outside the US really reinforces that point.
